Herman C. Davis, 76, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, at Shadescrest Health Care in Jasper.

Visitation services will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. until noon and the funeral service will start at noon at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Jasper with Pastor Brian Salvage officiating. Burial will be in the Gay Reed Cemetery in Jasper.

Deacon Herman C. Davis was born Sept. 15, 1937, to Shelly and Minnie B. Davis. Deacon Davis professed his faith and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined Jasper Hill Baptist Church, now known as 26th Street Baptist Church.

Davis served faithfully during his youth, but certainly in his later years, he served in various capacities. He was the chairman of the Deacon Board, a trustee, Sunday School teacher of the adult men, Wednesday night Bible Study instructor, dean of Walker County Baptist Progressive District Association and the male chorus.

Davis touched many lives both spiritually and emotionally through his unwavering dedication and contribution to God, his family and friends. He was an educator for 41 years. His many civic duties included board member for the Beacon House, First Bank of Jasper, Salvation Army, the Jasper Industrial Development, the Jasper Area Family Service Center and the Walker Area Community Foundation, to name a few.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelly and Minnie Davis; his loving first wife, Anne S. Davis; and his in-laws, the Rev. and Mrs. Jessie C. L. Cannon.

He leaves to cherish his lasting memories, his loving and devoted wife, Linda C. Davis of Jasper; two brothers, Shelley (Ida) Davis and Bernard (Ella) Davis of California; one sister, Dr. Angelita Jackson of Jasper; his stepson, Justin K. Wilson; three brothers-in-law, Ryan Cannon of Jasper, Sebastian (Sandra) Cannon of Texas and Christopher Cannon (Nicki) of Washington D.C.; five sisters-in-law, Iris S. Robertson (Cedric) of Fayette, Dr. Alicia (Aaron) Nalls of Fayette, Mae Ruth (Larry) Cochran of Fayette, Dr. Roxie (Reginald) Wells of North Carolina and Helena Meredith of Ohio; and numerous aunts, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends, including his special Corona Avenue neighbors, loving church family, special caregivers, Sherry and Sophia Breeding and Sally Woods with Gentiva Hospice, and the administrators and staff of Shadescrest Health Care and Rehab.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Herman Davis to the Walker Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 171, Jasper, AL 35502.
