Fifteen high school bands from throughout north Alabama will compete Saturday in the 16th annual Curry High Marching Classic.

The competition serves as a fundraiser for the band program at Curry, according to Tammy Manasco, president of the Curry Band Boosters.

“It’s a lot of fun to see all the bands compete,” Manasco said. “This is our big fundraiser for the year.”

Bands set to compete throughout the day include Walker, Parrish, Oakman, Carbon Hill, Hazel Green, Hubbertville, Sulligent, Falkville, West End, R.A. Hubbard, West Limestone, Pleasant Grove, Holly Pond, Rogers and West Morgan high schools.

Curry High’s band won’t compete but will perform its halftime show prior to awards being handed out.

The competition begins at 11 a.m. Awards are set to be given out at 5:45 p.m. Admission is $5. Parking is free.

Concession stands will be open, with all proceeds going to the band program at Curry.

Manasco said the competition wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who help with everything from parking cars to helping with the visiting bands.
