Stephen Lamar Brakefield, 59, of Jasper, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his residence. He was a talented musician and songwriter, as well as a beloved husband, father, son and friend to many. Brakefield served as choir director for over 30 years at First United Methodist Church of Carbon Hill. 

Services will be held today, Tuesday, Sept. 10, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Carbon Hill. Burial will follow at Walker Memory Gardens. Dr. Todd Henderson will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Camp Brakefield; and brother, Carl Camp Brakefield Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Dobbins Brakefield of Jasper; children, Aaron Brakefield of Birmingham and Malarie Brakefield of Jasper; mother, Ida Lou Brakefield of Carbon Hill; and godmother, Ann Keith Rea of Carbon Hill.

Pallbearers will be Allan Roberson, Thomas Dobbins, Dennis Dobbins, Dale Pair, Richard Barnes and Chris Barnes.

The family requests donations be given to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
