Jasper firefighters were busy Monday night and again Tuesday battling a pair of structure fires inside the city limits.

Firefighters were called out around 10:30 p.m. Monday to a fire at the Jim Petree Apartments where a fire broke out in one apartment. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze after gaining entry and keeping it from spreading to other units in the complex.

While the one apartment suffered extensive damage, damage in two other apartments was kept to a minimum. Fire Chief David Clark said the fire was started accidentally.

Clark said a separate structure fire Tuesday was under investigation after two units in a duplex apartment were heavily damaged. Firefighters were called out around 6 p.m. Tuesday to the duplex apartments in the 1100 block of Alabama Highway 195. Both units suffered heavy damage.

Both fires were fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene.

“Our firefighters did a great job of aggressively attacking both fires and stopping them before they spread too much,” Clark said. “I’m proud of the job they did.”
