He was born April 4, 1940, in Ashridge.
I.J. was a hard worker and a loving man, always willing to help anyone in need. He loved woodworking and making things with his hands. His favorite pastime was joking and making people laugh. Most of all, he loved his family.
He worked many jobs in his life, welding, logging and working as the tool room maintenance man for Southern Homes prior to his retirement. I.J. was a member of Pleasant Hill No. 2 Baptist Church for 40 years. He sang bass in the gospel group “Southern Praise” in the 90s and loved witnessing to others about the love of God.
Visitation was held Monday, July 29, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Pleasant Hill No. 2 Baptist Church in Double Springs, where services will be held today, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Bros. Jeffery Wiggins, Johnny Gunter and Jim Robins will officiate.
I.J. is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann Lacey; sons; Devon (Denise) Lacey, Thelan Lacey, Steve Lacey and Rusty (Melinda) Lacey; daughters, Judy (Kyle) Kirk and Michelle Lacey. He was “Paw Paw” to 19 grandchildren, Monica Kirk, Andrea Kirk, Crystal Smallwood, Brandon Lacey, Cody Lacey, Lauren Lacey, Britney Fannin, Bethany Anthony, Benjamin Harris, Kevin Lacey, Stephen Lacey, Courtney Lacey, Jonathan Lacey, Whitney Lacey, Hadden Sellers, Nick Sellers, Emma Sellers, Brian Ward and Craig Ward; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Smallwood, Jaedan Lacey, Grayson Lacey, Carson Avery, Maddox Ward and Lola Ward; brothers, James (Merle) Lacey, Frankie (Debra) Ward, Ronald (Renee) Ward and Roger (Linda) Ward; sisters, Betty Jones, Sara (Leon) Robins, Cathy (Terrell) Chance; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Kay Gray; grandson, Christopher Kyle Lacey; mother, Ollie Ward; and father, Chester Lacey.
