Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at his home in Stacks Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Jones and the Rev. Kevin Morrison will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Gerald married his wife Linda on Aug. 29, 1989. They have been married for 24 years. He worked in the mining industry for more than 35 years and retired from Berry Chevron Mines. He was a strong supporter of the union and was a member of the Local 1926 UMWA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed these outdoor adventures with his wife Linda, their children, grandchildren and many friends. He always had a smile and a quick comeback to everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Janie Stacks; brother, Gary Stacks; sisters, Dian Higginbotham and Lillie Mae Hyche; daughter, Jerry Clapp; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Stacks.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Stacks of Berry; sons, Jordan Stacks of Berry, Mike Stacks of Cordova, Chris (Annie) Stacks of Cordova, Kevin Stacks of Berry, Keith Stacks of Cordova, Kenneth Stacks of Cordova, Jeromy (Nicole) Morrison of Berry and Danny (Marylin) Morrison of Craigsville, W.V.; daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Walker of Russellville, Kay Stacks of Warrior and Susan (Edward) Dockery of Berry; brothers, J.E. (Myra) Stacks of Oakman and Lecil (Frances) Stacks of Cordova; sisters, Myra (Arthur) Willis of Cordova, Jane (Jimmy) Hyche of Cordova and Ruby Nell (Phillip) Ware of Cordova; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors of the Samantha community, Berry Chevron fellow mine workers, Crowe Transportation, Dr. Arti Pandy, Dr. Garfield Ramdeem, Dr. Dirk Berry, the staff of Tuscaloosa Nephrology, Amedysis of Fayette, Amedysis Hospice-Tuscaloosa, Amy Brown, Lida Wilson, Gary and Christy King, Daryl Key and Donna Reach.
