Kimbrell was born in Berry, Alabama on June 22, 1909. He was baptized in Cain Creek August 1, 1921. He was a member of Fayette First Baptist Church.
He made many significant contributions to the state of Alabama as a senator and as state finance director, also as an advisor to many of Alabama’s governors. He served on the State Agricultural Board, also the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Authority Board. He was the recipient of many proclamations and awards documenting a lifetime of service to his fellowman. His desire was to serve and improve life for all he knew. He was a great storyteller; sharing tales of his colorful political life and accomplishments, as well as his early life on the farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Reba Shook Kimbrell; his parents, William Asbury and Patience Kemp Kimbrell; his daughter, Cynthia Kimbrell Willingham; nine brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his son, Don Kimbrell (Libby) of Fayette: son-in-law, Jim Willingham of Birmingham; sister, Zelda Anderson of Tuscaloosa; three granddaughters, Lorayne Vague (Casey) of Jasper, Loretta Williams (Cary) of Portland, Oregon, Daphne McCabe (Rick) of Fayette; two grandsons, Soon Willingham and Tom Willingham of Birmingham; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 22, 2013, from 12 until 2 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fayette.
Funeral services will be on his 104th birthday, Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fayette City Cemetery. The Rev. Carl Wells will officiate. Nelson Funeral Home will direct.
Pallbearers will be his great-grandsons.
