He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Givens Twilley; one son, Anthony Twilley; brothers, Milton, James, J.W. (Jake), Lowell, Noble, Earl and Clement Twilley; and sisters, Alene Grace, Nadine Dill, Alice Mayhall and Pearl Cooper.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emma Grace Twilley; his only son, Shannon Ray Twilley (Donna); one daughter, Renee Taylor (Randy); grandsons, Shane, Shaune and James Twilley, Jamie Dill, Thomas and Leon Taylor; granddaughters, Teia Davis and Mary Myers; great-grandchildren, Isabella Davis, Desiree, Heather, Christian, Winter and Noah Twilley, Destiny and Kevin Dill, and Makayla and Christopher Myers; brothers, Olen, Lee and Bill Twilley; and one sister, Shelby Jean Walker.
He was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and song director at Pine Grove Holy Church of Christ for approximately 40 years. He served during the Korean War. He was employed by Birmingham Manufacturing for many years as a welder and Superintendent. After retiring from Birmingham Manufacturing, he continued to work as a truck driver until the age of 76.
Visitation was held Monday, June 3, 2013, at 5 p.m. for the family and from 6 until 9 p.m. for friends. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 4, 2013, in the chapel with Adam and Eric Twilley and Jimmy Grace officiating. Burial will follow at Bennett Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be William Val Davis II, Shane and James Twilley, Jamie Dill, Leon Taylor and Nicholas Whittemore.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. James Barton and his staff, Gentiva Hospice staff, especially Carla, Sallie and Myra and to his great-niece, Melissa Grace Moore, R.N.
