Approximately 50 spots are available at storefronts throughout downtown Jasper, according to Jenny Sayles, the AmeriCorps VISTA assigned to the city.
“The goal is to liven up the vacant buildings and get community members involved in their town,” Sayles said.
Participants may sign up with Sayles at the City Hall Annex on 4th Avenue South. There is a $5 registration fee as well as a liability release form that must be submitted.
Contestants will be assigned a window upon registering and must furnish their own paint and brushes.
Only poster paints may be used on the windows.
The theme of the contest is “A Brighter Tomorrow,” which was partially inspired by the area’s recovery from the April 27, 2011 tornadoes.
Artists will be judged on representation of the theme as well as originality, artistic ability and neatness.
Judging will take place Saturday. Winners will receive an award.
The contest is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association and the city of Jasper.
