The Walker County Community Action Agency and Viva Health will host their fourth annual health fair this Saturday at the Community Health Systems Activities Center from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

There will be representatives from a variety of agencies and companies to provide information and screenings to the public for free. These will included blood pressure and glucose screenings as well as HIV testing. The HIV testing will be in a more private area of the center and will be conducted and provided by West Alabama Outreach with Lauderdale County Health Department.

“There isn’t anyone around here that provides HIV screening on a regular basis,” said Deidre Tatum, executive director of the WCCAA.

There will also be interactive exercise demonstrations that include zumba, karate and line dancing. There will also be adult and pediatric dentists, information to help stop or prevent smoking, home safety advice, health insurance information and healthy snacks. Walker County RSVP will have information on its Yellow Dot Program, Hope for Women will provide drug information and the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office will provide healthy nutrition information.

A children’s play area will include a moonwalk to keep the kids entertained.

“We have activities and information for all age groups,” Tatum said.

There will also be a giveaway every 30 minutes, including free karate lessons with Master Ferrell, gifts from Belk totaling approximately $375, certificates for many local restaurants, Jasper Bowling and Bama Fitness. There will also be certificates for The Home Depot and Bull Building Supply.
