Three Walker County residents died in two separate vehicle accidents Monday morning.

William Charles Kinney, 32, of Nauvoo was killed when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree on Scott Cemetery Road in the Saragossa community. Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said the accident took place around 8 a.m. about two miles from U.S. 78. Alabama State Troopers and Saragossa Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, Poe said.

A second accident in the county took place around 8:20 a.m. when two vehicles collided head-on on Highway 69 North near Portzer Road. The drivers of each vehicle were killed in the crash. Brian Roy Marian, 41, of Jasper, was the driver of a northbound pickup truck, while Amy Michelle Heflin Wilhite, 38, of Jasper was the driver of a Nissan Altima headed southbound. Both were pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

A passenger in the truck was also injured, but his condition was not known as of press time. Poe said the man was transported to UAB Hospital by ambulance.

“The helicopters were grounded due to the wind at the time,” he said. “I’m not sure on that person’s condition or how serious their injuries were.”

Troopers are investigating each of the crashes, Poe said.

“It will be up to them to determine who was at fault in the head-on crash,” Poe said.
