The annual event was started by the Winston County Chitlin’ Eaters Association in 1959 and has become the biggest fundraiser of the year for the MHS Band of Champions. The annual event usually generates between $2,000 to $3,000 for the band in a non-political year, and more than $6,000 during a political year.
Organizers of the event generally prepare an estimated 350 pounds of chitterlings to serve at the supper. But they grill chicken to offer to those who may be a little to squeamish to give the chitterlings a little try.
This year’s plates will be $7 per person and consist of fried chitterlings or grilled chicken, slaw or potato salad, crackling cornbread, candied corn, dessert and a drink.
