Claude Ray Stewart, 70, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Jasper, passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Los Angeles.

Claude graduated from Walker County Training School in Jasper, where he excelled in academics and basketball. He was a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church as a child under the leadership of the Rev. Ervin Thomas. He was a part of the Sunday School Department.

Claude retired from Hercules Corporation in California after 25 years of service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, 2013 at Inglewood Park Mortuary. Funeral Service will be on Feb. 20, 2013 at Inglewood Mortuary with burial at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Stewart; his great-grandparents, Boston Stewart and America Shaw; grandparents, Peter Lee Stewart and Luella Driver; mother and father, Fannie Holt Stewart Philpot and Ezell Lee Stewart; three brothers, Ezell Lee Stewart Jr., Jimmie Edward Stewart (Elsie Baldwin) and Johnnie Earl Stewart; and nephew, Lee Stewart Hickman.

He is survived by two sons, Claude Stewart Jr. (Zeydi) and Charles Stewart; two daughters, Tressa Calloway and Tracie Stewart; mother of the children, Winnie Johnson Stewart; three grandchildren, Claude Stewart III, Daniel Stewart and Jordan Williams; a sister, Eloise Hickman Sanderson (Bishop John); and other family and friends.
