Evelyn Phillips Borden of Forestdale went to be with her Lord on Feb. 5, 2013. Evelyn is the daughter of the late Ephraim and Bernice Phillips. A graduate of Corner High School, she wed Johnny M. Borden on May 3, 1958. Evelyn enjoyed a long career as a church secretary and eventually retired from Southern Nuclear as an executive secretary.

Evelyn attended Gardendale First Baptist Church and was known for her love of Auburn football, and crowd-pleasing potato salad, pecan pie and peanut butter cookies. A true Southern lady, Evelyn was also a long-term cancer survivor.

Evelyn was a faithful Christian, whose devotion was apparent to everyone she met. She especially loved her family and is survived by a son, Dr. Allen Borden (Amanda) of Hoover and a daughter, Kim Frederick (Mark) of McCalla; grandchildren, Grant Frederick, Madeline Borden, Sophie Borden and Allison Frederick; sisters, Nell Torbert, Patsy Rhodes, Brenda Stewart (Ted) and Linda Hebb (George); and brother, Randall Phillips (Brenda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Evelyn will be held at Crestview Funeral Home today, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. with burial at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
