Nolen Moses Smith, 74, of Arley, entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Walker Baptist Hospital in Jasper surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 12, 1938, to Elton Jesse Smith and Mozelle Cowden Smith in Arley. He was a member of Arley Congregational Church for 40 years, where he served as Deacon.

Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Arley Congregational Church, where services will be held on today, Feb. 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bobby Smith and the Rev. Robert Partridge will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Avelyn Johnson Smith; sons, Marty Smith and Bobby Smith and his wife, Teresa; sisters, Gayla Price and her husband, Clarence, and Charlene Elliott and her husband, Billy. He was Papaw to four grandchildren, Caleb (Whitney) Smith, Megan Smith, Derek Smith and Jaimie Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Raylee Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Jesse Smith; mother, Mozelle Cowden Watts; and brothers, Dolphus “Doc” Smith, Dennis Watts and LaRay Watts.
