“This is a great opportunity for our students and community members to visit the places they’ve seen in history books and watched in movies,” Bevill State Assistant Director of Public Relations Holly Trawick, who will serve as group leader for the trip, said. “We will walk the road, touch the buildings and stand in the places where some of the greatest events of our history actually occurred...the Colosseum, Vatican City, Pompeii. It will be the trip of a lifetime.”
The itinerary for the trip includes:
Day 1: Fly overnight to Italy
Day 2: Arrive in Milan, travel to Venice
Day 3: Tour of Venice, includes St. Mark’s Square, the Grand Canal and Doge’s Palace
Day 4: Travel to Florence
Day 5: Tour of Florence, includes Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, Chiesa di Santa Croce, Gates of Paradise and the Duomo
Day 6: Travel to Assisi, including the Basilica of St. Francis.
Day 7: Travel to Pompeii; tour includes the Roman ruins. Continue to the Sorrento region
Day 8: Sorrento region, Rome
Day 9: Rome – Tour the Vatican City, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Tour of Rome including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and free time for visiting the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Spanish Steps.
The cost for the trip begins at $3,500, which includes roundtrip airfare from Birmingham, eight overnight stays in hotels with private bathrooms, daily breakfast, five local dinners, a full-time bilingual guide, ground transportation, guided tours and admission costs for attractions.
