Darrion Hunter is being held on warrants from two other municipalities, but he is facing charges of robbery, burglary and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after he reportedly robbed a residence on Highway 69 South near R.J.’s Convenience Store in Jasper.
The resident at the home told police that a man entered his home, brandished a gun and stole medication before fleeing. The resident provided a description of the suspect, and Hunter was picked up a short time later.
“Evening shift is our busiest shift, receiving our highest call volume. They are all hard workers,” Jasper Police Chief Connie Rowe said. “Taking this suspect into custody was the result of a quick response and great work.”
In another incident Saturday night, Jasper police responded to a call of a truck on fire at Dogwood Acres Trailer Park. Leo Harvill, a JPD detective, said a resident of the trailer park reported hearing a loud noise and then found his truck on fire after looking outside to check on the noise.
Police are investigating the incident as arson.
The Jasper Fire Department was also called to the scene.
“A witness said they saw someone driving a white truck throw something inside the vehicle before it caught on fire,” Harvill said. “I’m sure others saw something. It was a loud noise and a big fire. The inside of the truck was completely damaged.”
Anyone with information on the truck arson should contact the Jasper Police Department at 205-221-2121.
