Johnnie B. Shoemaker, 95, passed away in her home on Jan. 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. She was born on Sept. 21, 1917, in Corona, to James and Nancy Earnest. Her devoted husband, Leslie H. Shoemaker, preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage. Mrs. Shoemaker was also preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Shoemaker is survived by her loyal son and daughter-in-law, Pal and Victoriya Shoemaker; three granddaughters, Wendy Martorana, Angela DuBose and Liliya Shoemaker; four great-grandchildren, Nicole Thornton (Brandon), Mary Elizabeth Martorana, Annabelle DuBose and John Thomas DuBose; and two great-great-grandsons, Ashley Allen and Braden Thornton.

Her fondest memories were from her childhood church, Gibson Hill Baptist in Fayette, and she dedicated much of her life to rebuilding the church and maintaining the cemetery grounds there. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa for many years.

Her nephew, Gary Utley, lovingly provided her care and assistance until her death. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude for his sacrifice. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation for the care and compassion shown to our family by the Hospice Care Team.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Amedisys Hospice of Montgomery, 8160 Decker Lane, Montgomery, AL 36117.
