“I’ve been a part of safety training programs all over our state, and I’ve never been a part of one as beneficial and well done as this,” Adkins said.
Adkins said area police officials spent Wednesday and Thursday providing training.
“They did this out of their desire to help our county and the kids of our school system,” Adkins said.
Dora Police Chief John Duchock and Sumiton Assistant Police Chief Scott Karr were two of the training instructors.
Both were given certificates of appreciation by board members at Thursday’s meeting.
“We are very pleased to assist the board of education to take the lead in preparing for emergencies and protecting the students of Walker County,” Karr said.
In other action, the board:
•Approved personnel lists, which included hiring Jimmy Gay as Cordova High’s new head football coach.
•Approved the county’s LEA Title I Plan.
• Received a class size report.
•Approved Dave Lawson as a volunteer coach at Bankhead Middle School.
•Approved a school trip for 10 students at the Walker County Center of Technology to go to Montgomery Feb. 6-8.
