Carson Lee Davies came into the world at 5:38 a.m. on Tuesday, making him the first baby born at Walker Baptist Medical Center in 2013.

Carson weighed five pounds, 13 ounces. His parents are Whitley Willingham of Haleyville and Chris Davies of Russellville.

Willingham first started having labor pains on New Year’s Eve, her due date.

“We thought he was going to be born on the 31st, but I guess it’s better to be on the 1st. Just so long as he got here. I was ready to start a family,’” Davies said.

Carson and his parents received a special gift basket from the WBMC Volunteer Auxiliary for being Walker County’s New Year’s baby.

A second baby, also a boy, was born at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Renae McKinney, director of public relations for WBMC, said the hospital typically has a baby born on Jan. 1, although sometimes the New Year’s Baby isn’t born until several days later.

Approximately 800 babies are born at WBMC each year.
