SUMITON — The Sumiton Public Library got a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus on Wednesday for Storytime with Santa. More than 20 children at the library sang songs and had snacks before visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus to make their Christmas requests while parents snapped pictures. Librarian Sharon Black said the library holds storytime sessions throughout the year for children ages 3 to 5, but opened this special event up to children of all ages.

“We had some homeschooled children who came today.” Black said.

The library has just wrapped up its fall reading session, but will begin a winter session after the holidays. The next storytime session will begin on Jan. 15, but Black stressed that children must be registered ahead of time to participate in the group.

Sumiton Fire Captain Mike Hammock played the role of Santa and his wife, Tammie, filled the role of Mrs. Claus. “We always enjoy doing things for the kids,” Hammock said. “Anything we can do to put a smile on their faces.”

For more information on the library or its programs or to register for a future session, call Black or Haley Creel at (205)648-7451 or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ SumitonPublicLibrary.
