Four Winston County volleyball teams headed to state

Winston County's going to be heavily represented at the Elite Eight State Volleyball Tournament.

Addison, Lynn, Meek and Winston County each made the field after finishing in the top 4 at the North Super Regional Tournament in Huntsville on Saturday. The tournament will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

In Class 1A, Addison took the No. 1 slot by beating county rival Lynn in the tournament final.

Top-ranked Addison (54-4) will open the state tournament against No. 10 Akron (17-6) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs went a perfect 4-0 in Huntsville, sweeping Tharptown, Covenant Christian, Athens Bible and Lynn. In the final match, Addison beat Lynn 25-12, 25-17, 25-10. The Bears took the No. 2 seed at the Super Regional while Meek qualified fourth after beating Phillips-Bear Creek and Waterloo and falling to Lynn and No. 8 Athens Bible School.

Third-ranked Lynn (29-14) faces Jefferson Christian (20-10) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Meek (19-24) opens the state tournament against No. 2-ranked Donoho at 9 a.m.

In Class 3A, Winston County took the No. 4 seed at the Super Regional Tournament in Huntsville. After opening with a pair of wins, Winston County fell to Danville and Plainview.

The fourth-place finish puts No. 8 Winston County (36-22) against No. 1 Bayside Academy (62-2) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

A total of six schools in Walker County (Carbon Hill, Cordova, Curry Dora, Oakman and Walker) advanced to the Super Region Tournament with five of the six losing their first match. Curry made the second day of the event, before being eliminated by Hartselle.
