A Jasper convenience store was robbed Tuesday evening, and police are currently searching for the suspect.

Jasper Police Chief Connie Cooner Rowe confirmed a suspect, with a red bandana over his face, robbed the Qwik Sak, located on 20th Street in west Jasper, Tuesday around 6 p.m. The suspect was armed with a small, black handgun and fled on foot traveling north toward 19th Street.

Rowe said the suspect was able to take an undetermined amount of cash. She also reported there were no injuries in the incident.

JPD received the call at 5:42 p.m. and the first officer arrived on the scene at 5:44 p.m., Rowe said.

Police reported the suspect in the robbery is a black male, believed to be in his early 20s, 5-foot-9, 140 to 150 pounds. He was wearing a maroon jacket with a black hood with a diamond shape on it, shiny black pants, and grey shoes with red shoe strings.

Rowe said evening shift officers were searching for the suspect Tuesday evening and concentrating their search efforts in the downtown area.

“They have cleared several buildings in the vicinity of the robbery,” she said.

Anyone with information on the robbery should call the Jasper Police Department at 221-2121.
