Velma Lou Barrentine Gant, 97, of Oakman died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at Alabama Hospice in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be at Flatwoods Community Church at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 11. Burial will follow at Flatwoods Cemetery in Berry. Johnny Martin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.

Gant was preceded in death by her first husband, Carson Barrentine; second husband, Richard Gant; son, James Barrentine; father, Bezalee Earnest; mother, Mary Francis Earnest; brothers, Jacob Earnest, Grover Earnest and George Earnest as well as an infant brother; sisters, Martha Gurganus and Minnie Bonner; great-grandchildren Cody Barrentine and Montana Freeman.

She is survived by her daughters, Oleta Bruner of Oakman and Lynda Wright of Oakman; sons, Lecil Barrentine of Oakman, Wilford Barrentine of Berry and Carl Barrentine of Jasper; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
