This weekend, members of West Walker Church of Christ will be studying one of the fastest-growing religions in the world — Islam.

Dr. Dave Miller, executive director of Montgomery-based Apologetics Press, will be the guest speaker.

Miller is the author of “The Quran Unveiled,” which was released by Apologetics Press in 2005. His presentation is called “The Quran and New Testament Christianity.”

Some of the topics Miller is expected to address include the central doctrines of Islam, whether Islam and Christianity are compatible and what Christians should do.

Minister Ben Wright said now is a good time for the church to host its first Islam seminar because Americans have seen and heard a lot about Islam in the past decade.

Most recently, TV analysts have been discussing the possibility of Muslim extremists gaining power in the new Egypt.

“Most people just know bits and pieces of the information that is out there. Dr. Miller has studied it (Islam) in light of the Bible,” Wright said.

Wright said he believes his congregation will want to learn more about the history of the religion and the differences between Islam and Christianity.

One of Miller’s articles on the Apologetics Press website is called “Christians Should Examine Islam.” Wright agrees that Christians should educate themselves about the world’s second largest religion.

“It’s something that we need to be aware of, know what the Bible says about it and how to deal with it as Christians,” Wright said.

The seminar is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s times are 9:30 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
