Emily Nancy Howard Romine Smith (Miss Emily), our beloved mother, passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home with Ray Goggans officiating. There will be no graveside services.

Emily was born in Rockcastle County, Ky., and raised in Harlan County, Ky. She was a devoted wife and mother and spent her life loving her family and working in the church where her husband and later second husband ministered. She spent her life serving the Lord with all her heart. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending her time with nieces and nephews. She never met a stranger, but often stopped to touch a child. She loved laughing. She moved to Jasper in 2001 with her daughter, Joyce Romine Osborn. She became known in the community as “Ms Emily.” She left a special place in the hearts of friends and family. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Milton Brittain Howard; and her mother, Mary Jane Howard; husband, Calvin Romine; second husband, Frank Smith; daughters, Carol Romine Hendrickson and Shirley Jean Romine Abrams; step-sons, Herman Romine and Curtis Howard; sisters, Bessie Howard and Ruby Howard; and 13 brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Romine Osborn; grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Verge (Chuck) Hunt, Alicia Hendrickson, Michael Abrams, Keith Abrams, Kevin Hendrickson, Darla Hendrickson, and David Hendrickson; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; special family, Ruby Johnson, Kenneth Howard and Christy Howard; special friend, Phyllis Goggans.
