Yellowhammer Tactical recently broke ground on a new business site that will offer the only pistol range in Jasper.
Drivers along Highway 78 in the city may have noticed groundwork across the highway from the new Tractor Supply, and, as early as next spring, Yellowhammer Tactical will have their new home on the three-acre site. The business opened in June of last year at 4011 Highway 195 to sell a variety of guns and tactical gear to the general public.
Co-owners Chad Tuggle and Mort Kelley say expanding their business to include a pistol range was part of their original business plan.
The new Yellowhammer Tactical will provide a retail area with full view of the shooting range that will be behind bullet proof glass. The shooting range will have six 75-foot lanes, and Tuggle said they also want to have six lanes of ax throwing.
"We want a full fledged tactical facility and pistol range to add something to Jasper," Tuggle said. "I would like to continue on that property with further entertainment possibilities, some pasttime and recreational things that's not the norm."
Yellowhammer Tactical will also have a conference room and party space as part of the new build. Tuggle said they would eventually like to have a 300-foot rifle range at the site, but they will only be offering a pistol range when their doors open at the new location next year.
There will be opportunities for people to have a membership with the benefit of using the pistol range, and there will also be shooting lanes available to rent on an as needed basis. Tuggle said people may fire a pistol they plan to purchase or bring their own pistol for practice in the shooting range.
Yellowhammer Tactical will welcome those in the area who may be purchasing a firearm for the first time, and there will be a range officer on site to help teach gun use. Tuggle said they want to particularly welcome women to Yellowhammer Tactical who are looking for equipment to provide a greater sense of security.
"We want to service everybody. We're about education and providing services and defense education," Tuggle said. "Women are top on that list. Promoting training for women will be a focus."
The retail area of the new build will provide multiple means of safety, including firearms, accessories, self defense weaponry, pepper spray, knives, concealed weapons and other items.
Tuggle said the current Yellowhammer Tactical building is up for sale, but they will remain open until a buyer is secured. Their business hours are currently Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Yellowhammer Tactical is closed on Sunday.
