Winston County girls, Blanton off to hot start

Saige Blanton had 29 points, 17 rebounds and five steals to lead Winston County to a 56-51 win over Curry at Double Springs on Tuesday.

Blanton, who was coming off a 33-point performance in a loss to Winfield, has scored 20 or more points in four of the Yellow Jackets' six games this season. She is averaging 22.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 6.7 steals per game.

In the win over Curry, Kady Bonds had 10 points and six rebounds while Mackenzie Blackwood added nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Winfield handed Winston County its only loss of the season in a 54-47 decision.

Winston County won its first four games, defeating St. Bernard (55-23), Lynn (55-19), Sumiton Christian (43-24) and Vinemont (69-41).

Winston County hosts Sulligent on Friday.
