Jeffery Winborne, a 2004 graduate of Curry High, has been named new media coordinator of the Daily Mountain Eagle.

Publisher James Phillips said Winborne is a welcomed addition to the newspaper staff.

“Jeffery has a passion for what we do, and he is filling a newly created position as we continue to look to the future of our industry,” Phillips said. “The Eagle has already started several new experiments with our social media accounts and will be unveiling much more new audio/video content in the coming days and weeks.”

Winborne has worked previously as a freelance writer for the Eagle. He began this full-time position on April 1. Along with coordinating the newspaper’s social media and new technology efforst, Winborne will also handle some advertising accounts, including social media accounts for DME clients, as well as continue to contribute to the newsroom on special sections and during football season.

“Finding the right person for this position was key. A varied skillset was a must. I think we’ve found that person,” Phillips added.

Winborne was born in Jonesville, La., but moved to Jasper at 13. After graduating from Curry, he attended Bevill State Community College. He worked for Charter Communications for nearly six years before joining the Eagle.

“I am proud to have found a way to help connect with my community in such a profound way as the Daily Mountain Eagle has provided me,” Winborne said. “If you ever ask me where I am from, I will tell you I was born in Louisiana, but I am from Jasper, Alabama.”

Winborne is engaged to Margaret McGregor. He has one daughter, Ava, and one soon-to-be stepdaughter, Rebekkah.
