October 28, 1933 July 13, 2017 William Howard McDonald, 83, of Jasper, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
The family will receive friends today, July 15, 2017, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the chapel at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 7 p.m. Rev. David Byrd will officiate. Burial will be at Saragossa Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
William was born in Rosehill, Ala., and was the son the late, George William and Ossie Lee McDonald.
“Pop” loved Auburn football, his family and was very proud of the four years he spent in the United States Navy, during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and a coal miner. He loved watching the Braves with his best buddy, Jake.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Painter and Dorothy Naramore; brothers, Sig, Ralph and Osrow McDonald; granddaughter, Kim Williams; great-grandson, Austin Gardner; and son-in-law, Gene Vandiver.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Vandiver, Vicki Oliver (John), Lisa Jones (Quinton) and Terri Culverson (Jim); son, Howard McDonald (Sally); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in William’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
