What's Going On



The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and on the Calendar at www.mountaineagle.com. Events are listed by calendar date and time as space allows, so guarantee when, or the number of days, an event will run. The deadline to place a an event is no later than noon on Tuesday and Friday. Walker County Constables Association will host its inaugural Walker County Bazaar on Saturday, June 23, from 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Old Walker County Airport on North Airport Road in Jasper. Fun for the kids. Come visit vendors and see the RAMS (Regional Air Medical Services) helicopter. Vendors of all kinds (yard sale, flea market, etc.) welcome. Annual Lane Family Reunion will be held Saturday, June 23, from 11-2 p.m. at Sonny's Fast Track on Alabama Hwy. 69 North in Jasper. 

Walker County ARES (Ham Radio) invites the public as well as all ham radio operators to its Field Day being held Saturday, June 23, from 1 until 5 p.m. beside the Bankhead House and Museum located at the intersection of 6th Street and 9th Avenue in Jasper. WCARES members will have their ham radios and antennas set up, and they will be happy to talk with you about them and how they work, as well as allow you talk on one. They will also have digital communications set up for those who would rather talk with a computer keyboard.


The "Lynn Community Cares" will host a "Dinner at the Fire Department" on Sunday, June 24, from noon until 3 p.m. at Lynn Fire Station #2 on Winston County Road 59 in Lynn. Chili and hotdogs, drink and dessert $7 or BBQ sandwich, drink and dessert $5. Proceeds will benefit the annual "Lynn Community Cares" Fireworks event, which will be held Saturday, June 30. Please make checks payable to the "Lynn Community Cares." 


Jasper Senior Activity Center will host Refresher Smartphone and Facebook Course on Tuesday, June 29, at noon. Please sign up in advance by calling the JSAC office at 205-221-8513.


Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) will host the Legal Bootcamp: "Medicaid Estate Recovery" for senior adults 60 and older, or the caregiver/family of someone who is, on Thursday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the Jasper Civic Center on 19th Street in Jasper. One presentation by Jan Neal Law Firm LLC, with One On One sessions from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m.  


Parrish Family Reunion will be held Saturday, June 30, beginning at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall in Double Springs. For more information, call 205-489-2320.

Lynn Community Cares will host its annual Fireworks Display on Saturday, June 30. Gates open at 5 p.m., 50/50 Drawing at 8 p.m. and Fireworks at 9 p.m. and will include plenty of games, vendors and food. All vendors are welcome. Booth cost is $5. Jasper Civil Service Board will hold its regular meeting on Monday, July 2, at 9 a.m. due to the regular meeting date falling on Wednesday, July 4.

Walker County Extension Office located at 1501 North Airport Road in Jasper will host a free Credit Seminar on Monday, July 2, from 6-7:30 p.m. The seminar will be conducted by Human Sciences Regional Extension Agent Emily Hines. Individuals planning to attend should call 205-221-3392 to register for the event by no later than Friday, June 29.

Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Cullman County Extension Office will host a "Home Food Preservation Course" July 18-20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day, at Springhill Baptist Church located at 5400 U.S. Hwy. 278 West in Cullman. Everyone will take home a variety of preserved foods, plus a jar with an airlock lid for kraut. Cost of the course will be $20 per day or $50 for whole 3-day course. Free Will Baptist Children's Home in Eldridge will host an Open House Saturday, July 14, from 1-4 p.m. showcasing the renovation of the Thorogood House, built in 1894. Light refreshments will be provided.


Walker County Commission will hold its quarterly night meeting on Monday, July 16, at 6 p.m. at the Commission Chambers. The night meetings are held to encourage the public to discuss problems and suggestions with the Commission, when they cannot attend the day meetings.

Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department will host a Swamp John’s Supper fundraiser Monday, July 16, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Pineywoods Fire Station located just off Alabama 69 North on Pineywoods-Sipsey Road in Jasper.


Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Walker County Extension Office located at 1501 Airport Road N. in Jasper will host a "Small Business" Workshop on Wednesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day at Extension Office. Topics will include: Starting From Scratch, Business and Economics/Marketing, Long Term Business Plans/Internet Web Site and Business Taxes/Bookkeeping. Cordova Quarterback Club will hosts its annual "Blue Devil" Day on Saturday, Aug. 18. Vendor booths are currently available for $25 each. For more information, call 205-275-4360.


44th Annual Mule Day Car and Bike Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 22. $20 entry fees. Discount for multiple entries under same owner.
