WHAT'S GOING ON

The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and on the Calendar at www.mountaineagle.com. Events are listed by calendar date and time as space allows, so guarantee when, or the number of days, an event will run. The deadline to place a an event or reunion is no later than noon on Tuesday and Friday. THURSDAY, MAY 24

East Walker Grief Support Group will meet fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:15 a.m. at the Sumiton Community Center at 193 Bryan Road in Sumiton.


Walker County Genealogical Society will meet the fourth Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in the meeting room of the Jasper Public Library on 18th Street in Jasper.


Alzheimer's Disease Support Group will host monthly meetings fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Samaria Baptist Church located at 70 East Lake Road in Jasper. The meetings will be facilitated by Dr. Morris Murray Jr., and consist of encouragement and support for AD caregivers, including specific perspectives on causes, treatment options, and legal matters.


Cordova Senior Center will host a free emergency preparedness bag event on May 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Caregivers are invited to bring any information cards for a loved one to be copied and laminated for an emergency situation. RSVP to Jamie Colvert at 205-332-2172.


FRIDAY, MAY 25

Sumiton Area Veterans group is currently planning to have a memorial service at the Sumiton Community Center on Friday, May 25, at 1:30 p.m. in observance of Memorial Day. The event will be held outside and include a brief introduction by the director of Sumiton Area Veterans Memorial, Bill Fowler, a laying of the Wreath Ceremony. 

 

T.W. Martin High School Class of 1957 will hold its class reunion on Friday, May 25, at 6 p.m. at Moore's Landing in Jasper. 


SATURDAY, MAY 26

Annual Townley Community Barbecue will be held Saturday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at Townley Church of God. Meat will be provided. Please bring side dishes.

UMWA Local 1288 (Old Marylee 1, Segco and Maxine Mines) will have its annual reunion Saturday, June 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Old Harbin Hotel in Nauvoo, with lunch at noon and soft-serve ice cream all day. Brown/Busby Reunion will be held Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at Jean's on the River in Cordova.

Walker County Education Retirees will meet Thursday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at the Jasper Civic Center. The group will recognize members who have passed away the previous year. The meeting will conclude with the group traveling to Pat Morrison's museum for the program "Memories of Walker County."


SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Third Annual Tallulah Half Marathon will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018, in Jasper. Combined with 5K and one-mile events, the Tallulah Half Marathon will start and finish on the square in beautiful downtown Jasper. American Legion Post 9 in Jasper has moved its June meeting to Thursday, June 7, 2018, due to the Department Convention scheduled from June 14-17. Will resume its regular second Thursday of each month meetings in July.


Alzheimer's Disease Support Group will meet at Samaria Baptist Church, located on 70 East Lake Road, at 6 p.m. The topic will be attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Featured speaker will be Dr. Morris Murray Jr.
