American Legion Unit 9 Woods/Smith Auxiliary in Jasper will meet the second Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Bus Barn located at 1000 Viking Drive in Jasper. For more information, please contact Shannon Williamson 205-689-3142.


Arley Women’s Club meets the second Monday of each month at the Arley Library, with lunch at noon and meeting at 1 p.m.


The American Red Cross in Jasper will host an emergency preparedness workshop for caregivers on May 15 at 10 a.m. A "grab and go" disaster supply kit will be provided to participants while supplies last. Register at 877-926-8300.

The Ethan Bland Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser will be held at Mr. Bean's BBQ from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15. Ten percent of meal proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. Pilot Club of Jasper meets the third Thursday of each month at noon at the Francis Israel Hospitality Center on the Bevill State Community College - Jasper Campus.

Sumiton Senior Dance is held the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the senior complex in Sumiton. Music provided by Country Classic Band. Admission is $3.

Walker County Republican Party will meet Thursday, May 17 at 6 p.m. at Bevill cafeteria on the Jasper campus. Guest speaker will be Terry Lathan, chairwoman of the Alabama Republican Party.


45th Annual Arley Day Festival, sponsored by the Arley Women’s Club, will be Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Will also draw for an AWC 2018 Hand Crafted Quilt "Gateway to Paradise" and a Big Green Egg with accessories. Camp Horne 5K Trail Run 2018, benefitting the Black Warrior Council's Boy Scouts of America, will be held Saturday, May 19, at 4 p.m. at Camp Horne at 13663 Keenes Mill Road in Cottondale. A fun, challenging course for runners of all ages and abilities. Register online at www.bwc-bsa.org.

Sons of Confederate Veterans Major John C. Hutto Camp 443 meets the third Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. in the basement of  First United Methodist Church in Jasper. 


Jasper Senior Activity Center's May  trip will be to the Birmingham Museum of Art on Thursday, May 24. Lunch at Niki’s West. There is a transportation fee of $10. Sign up and pay by Monday, May 21.

Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department will host a Swamp John’s Supper fundraiser Monday, May 21, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Pineywoods Fire Station located just off Alabama 69 North on Pineywoods-Sipsey Road.

Alzheimer's Disease Support Group will host monthly meetings fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Samaria Baptist Church located at 70 East Lake Road in Jasper. The meetings will be facilitated by Dr. Morris Murray Jr., and consist of encouragement and support for AD caregivers, including specific perspectives on causes, treatment options, and legal matters.

Cordova Senior Center will host a free emergency preparedness bag event on May 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Caregivers are invited to bring any information cards for a loved one to be copied and laminated for an emergency situation. RSVP to Jamie Colvert at (205) 332-2172.

Third Annual Tallulah Half Marathon will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018, in Jasper. Combined with 5K and one-mile events, the Tallulah Half Marathon will start and finish on the square in beautiful downtown Jasper.
