WHAT'S GOING ON

The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and on the Calendar at www.mountaineagle.com. Events are listed by calendar date and time as space allows, so guarantee when, or the number of days, an event will run. The deadline to place a an event or reunion is no later than noon on Tuesday and Friday. THURSDAY, MAY 10

Breast Cancer Support Group of Walker County will meet Thursday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m., in the Community Room at the Carl Elliott Regional Library on 18th Street in Jasper. Guest speaker will be Vicki Mullinax, a consultant for Medi Rest. She will be displaying items cancer patients and survivors may need to aid in their recovery, such as prosthesis and bras. Cconsultations with Mrs. Mullinax will follow the meeting from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Anyone interested in obtaining the items will need to bring their current insurance card and a prescription from their doctor. Red Knights International Motorcycle Club Alabama Chapter 9 meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Jasper. Meeting is open to all retired and active firefighters, and those involved in firefighting operations (past or present) who enjoy motorcycles. Jasper Senior Activity Center on 14th Street West in Jasper hosts a dance at the Memorial Park Natatorium in Jasper the second Friday of each month from 7 until 10 p.m. Admission is $5. For more information, call 205-221-8513.


SATURDAY, MAY 12

 26th Annual National Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive will be held Saturday, May 12. To donate, just place a box or can of non-perishable food such as soups and/or vegetables with pop top lids, cereal, Pop Tarts, crackers, drink boxes, snack boxes, etc., next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail and the carrier will do the rest. All non-perishable food items collected in Walker County will go to the Salvation of Army Service Center Food Bank in Jasper. 


Dilworth Community Center will host a monthly breakfast the second Saturday of each month at 7 a.m. at the center.


Walker County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will meet the second Saturday of each month at 8 a.m. at the American Red Cross Office located on Viking Dr. in Jasper. Testing for all Amateur Radio license classes will be held at 9 a.m. for anyone wanting to get their amateur radio license or upgrade. Art in the Park will be held Saturday, May 12, at Gamble Park in Jasper. Rain or shine.

45th Annual Arley Day Festival, sponsored by the Arley Women’s Club, will be Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Will also draw for an AWC 2018 Hand Crafted Quilt "Gateway to Paradise" and a Big Green Egg with accessories. Alzheimer's Disease Support Group will host monthly meetings fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Samaria Baptist Church located at 70 East Lake Road in Jasper. The meetings will be facilitated by Dr. Morris Murray Jr., and consist of encouragement and support for AD caregivers, including specific perspectives on causes, treatment options, and legal matters.

Third Annual Tallulah Half Marathon will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018, in Jasper. Combined with 5K & 1 Mile events, the Tallulah Half Marathon will start and finish on the square in beautiful downtown Jasper.
