SPECIAL NOTICE 

Civitan Club of Jasper is now taking pre-orders for its annual Vidalia Onion Sale. Onions are purchased and delivered from Vidalia, Ga. The cost is $10 per 10 pound bag. Empire Volunteer Fire Department is currently accepting fire dues of $40 per year, per household. The dues are used to help fund firefighting operations in the Empire community, and should be mailed to Empire VFD, P.O. Box 62, Empire, AL 35067.

Alabama Power Service Organization-Jasper Chapter will be selling Swamp John Dinners Thursday, March 22, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Jasper Office. Carry-out plates will be $11, includes chose of chicken, shrimp or fish, or combo, coleslaw, French fries, and hush puppies. Proceeds will be used by APSO-Jasper to help fund projects for other non-profit organizations in Walker County.

Walker County Genealogical Society will meet the fourth Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in the meeting room of the Jasper Public Library on 18th Street in Jasper.

American Red Cross will host a volunteer recruitment meeting Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m. at the American Red Cross Jasper Office located at 1101 Viking Drive in Jasper. Volunteers are needed in many different areas of service in the Jasper area. Refreshments will be provided.

Girls Incorporated of Central Alabama -Walker County Center will hold registration for its 2018 Summer Enrichment Program for girls 6-18 at the River of Living Water United Methodist Church at 1401 Jones Dairy Road in Jasper from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the following Saturdays, March 24, April 7, April 21, May 5, and May 19, and Wednesday, May 30, Thursday, May 31, and Friday, June 1. Empire Volunteer Fire Department & Forever and Always Patriots will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24, from 1-3 p.m. at the Empire Fire Department on Wingo Road in Empire. The first 50 children will receive a free basket full of goodies. Hotdogs, chips and drinks will also be served following the egg hunt.

Walker Baptist Volunteer Auxiliary will host a Uniform and Shoe Sale Monday, March 26, and Tuesday, March 27, from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Education Center located on the first floor at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper. Open to the public. Cash or major credit cards accepted. The Walker Baptist Volunteer Auxiliary receives a percentage of the sales to help fund projects supported within the hospital.

It will also honor the town’s Coal Heritage with displays and exhibits related to the Coal Industry in Walker County.
