The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle.com. Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon each Tuesday and Friday. SPECIAL NOTICES

Bankhead House & Heritage Center located at 800 7th St. in Jasper will have the Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit on display through Friday, Feb. 23. The Bankhead House & Heritage Center is open TuesdayFriday from 10 a.m.4 p.m., and during this exhibit only, each Saturday from 10 a.m.2 p.m.

Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department is currently collecting its 2018 Fire Dues, which are $35 per year, per household. Dues should be mailed to Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department, 105 Pineywoods/Sipsey Road, Jasper, AL 35504.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31

Jasper Senior Activity Center will host a trip to Desoto Caverns Wednesday, Jan. 31. $10 Transportation fee is $10 and admission fee $12. Depart from Senior Activity Center at 8:30 a.m. Seniors are urged to sign up for the trip in advance. For more information, call 205-221-8513.

THURSDAY, FEB. 1

Walker County Education Retirees will meet Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Jasper Civic Center. Will be recognizing Black History Month with the program “Celebrities, Who Am I?”

SATURDAY, FEB. 10

Bankhead House and Heritage Center at 611 8th Ave. in Jasper will host a “Water/Ways” Heritage Fun Day on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. A “Give Back” Water Drive will also be held to benefit first responders. Drop off cases of water during the hours listed above and give back to those who protect us every day. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Nauvoo Volunteer Fire Department will host a Bean Supper Saturday, Feb. 10, from 47 p.m. at the Nauvoo Fire Station located at 8176 Nauvoo Road in Nauvoo. Proceeds from the supper will go to the Nauvoo Volunteer Fire Department to help fund firefighting operations in their community.

MONDAY, FEB. 12

Walker County Civil Service Board has changed the time of its Monday, Feb. 12, meeting from 5 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This change is for the February meeting only.

TUESDAY, FEB. 13

Arley Women’s Club will host its annual Valentine’s Pies & Posies fundraiser for Hamner Park on Tuesday, Feb. 13, and Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day at the Arley Public Library. Choose from a variety of home-made pies or rose bouquets. Proceeds will benefit Arley’s Hamner Park. Specialty pies can even be pre-ordered by calling Mrs. Sellers at 205-384-5198.
