The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle.com. Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon each Tuesday and Friday. Bankhead House & Heritage Center at 800 7th St. in Jasper will have the Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit on display through Friday, Feb. 23. The Bankhead House & Heritage Center is open TuesdayFriday from 10 a.m.4 p.m., and during this exhibit only, each Saturday from 10 a.m.2 p.m.

THURSDAY, JAN. 25

Capstone Rural Health Center and Walker County Community Action will offer a Senior Program the fourth Thursday of each month at the Lueda Smith Library on Crutchfield Boulevard in Jasper. For more information about the program, please call Shannon at 724-9031 or Deidre at 221-4010.

SERVSAFE Food Safety Certification Class will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, and Thursday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m.3 p.m. at the Walker County Extension Office. Registration for this class is $125, which includes all materials and test for certification. To register for the class and pay with a credit card visit www.ssl.acesag.auburn.edu/payment/fscert/registrationForm.php. The class is a mandated requirement by the Department of Public Health for those who work or would like to work in food service. This is a two day class, and you will need to attend both days. Walker County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. in the meeting room of the Jasper Public Library on 18th Street in Jasper.

SATURDAY, JAN. 27

Townley Community Center will host a benefit gospel singing Saturday, Jan. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with special solo artists; featured group, Faith on Fire, at 6 p.m.; and Eagles Wings will conclude the concert. Admission is free, but a love offering will be taken to help fund the second phase of renovations at TCC.

Jasper High School 2018 Sweetheart Pageant will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Pamela H. Brown Theater at Jasper High School. Admission will be $8 at the door. Reserved seating is not available this year.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31

Jasper Senior Activity Center will host a trip to Desoto Caverns Wednesday, Jan. 31. $10 Transportation fee is $10 and admission fee $12. Depart from Senior Activity Center at 8:30 a.m. Seniors are urged to sign up for the trip in advance. For more information, call 205-221-8513.

Walker County Education Retirees will meet Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Jasper Civic Center. Will be recognizing Black History Month with the program “Celebrities, Who Am I?”

SATURDAY, FEB. 10

Bankhead House and Heritage Center at 611 8th Ave. in Jasper will host a “Water/Ways” Heritage Fun Day on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. A “Give Back” Water Drive will also be held to benefit first responders. Drop off cases of water during the hours listed above and give back to those who protect us every day. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Nauvoo Volunteer Fire Department will host a Bean Supper Saturday, Feb. 10, from 47 p.m. at the Nauvoo Fire Station located at 8176 Nauvoo Road in Nauvoo. Proceeds from the supper will go to the Nauvoo VFD to help fund firefighting operations in their community.
