The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle.com. Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. Community and school events, and class and family reunions are only accepted from local civic, government, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, high school classes, and families. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon on Tuesday or Friday of each week. Empire Volunteer Fire Department is currently selling tickets on a drawing for a Mossberg 270 rifle, with scope. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Arley Women’s Club meets the second Monday of each month at the Arley Library, with lunch at noon and meeting at 1 p.m.

Capstone Rural Health Center and Walker County Breast Cancer Support Group will host three Spirit Nights during the month of October at these specific locations on the following dates and times: Los Reyes - Monday, Oct. 9, from 5-9 p.m.; Johnny Brusco’s - Monday, Oct. 16, from 5-9 p.m.; and Warehouse 319 - Monday, Oct. 23, from 5-9 p.m., featuring karaoke. All proceeds raised will benefit the Walker County Breast Cancer Support and their efforts to spread the word about early detection.

Jasper Herb Society meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper.

Carbon Hill City Council will have a called work session on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. Part of the discussion will involve the construction of a new permanent stage across from city hall, and may include a visit to the site.

The Corner Market, a mobile grocery store, will be in Nauvoo at the corner of Corner of Nauvoo Road and 3rd Street the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:3011 a.m. The unit will then travel to Sipsey, where it will be at the Sipsey City Hall from 11:30 a.m.1 p.m. You can purchase meats, dairy, fresh produce, canned goods and dry goods. This service is offered through the Central Alabama Food Bank. They accept cash, credit cards and EBT cards. At these stops, partnering organizations, such as Capstone, M4A and many others, will be present to offer information about the services they offer the community as well. Walker Baptist Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary will sponsor a Collective Goods (formerly Books Are Fun) Sale, featuring books electronics, home goods, kid’s gifts and more, on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 13, from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Walker Baptist Medical Center Main Lobby.
