The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the A section of the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle. com. Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. Community and school events, and class and family reunions are only accepted from local civic, government, nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organizations, schools, high school classes, and families. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon on Tuesday or Friday of each week. Arley Women’s Club will hold their regulary monthly meeting the second Monday of each month at the Arley Library, with lunch at noon and meeting at 1 p.m.

Walker County Civil Service Board will meet the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Walker County Courthouse Annex.

READ ALABAMA! “The Tradition Continues” Literary Program will kick-off Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Mathews Lecture Hall in the Wade Math & Science Building on the Bevill State Community College - Walker College Campus in Jasper. Free to the public. Refreshments served at 3:30 p.m. Featured author’s program will begin at 4 p.m. Featured author will be Nancy Swanner, author of Chrome Heart.

Jasper Herb Society will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Jasper.

Arley Book Club will meet Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Arley Public Library at 1 p.m. Luajuana Brasfield, author of Heart Menders, will be the guest speaker.

THURSDAY, FEB. 16

Capstone Rural Health will host its monthly Community Resource Day for Nauvoo Thursday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. They offer enrollment assistance with Medicaid and Affordable Care Insurance, SNAP (Food Stamp), and free Safelink cell phones. Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) will also be on hand with information on resources offered in Walker County. Community resources that would like to educate citizens living in Nauvoo and the surrounding communities about the services they offer are welcome attend free of charge. Capstone Rural Health Center will have representatives at the Library at Lakeland Hospital in Haleyville each Thursday beginning Thursday, Feb. 16, 2016, to assist with insurance enrollment, including Medicaid, All Kids, Affordable Care and Medicare. If you have been referred to UAB for financial aid, they can help with completion of that application as well. Representatives will also assist with completing SNAP (Food Stamps) Benefits applications and provide information on other community resources in the community. Capstone, M4A & UAB Dental Clinic have partnered to offer 15 seniors, 60 and over, a free dental cleaning. This will be on a first come, first serve basis. Walker County Area Community Foundation announces its 2017 Spring Grant Cycle is now open. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations seeking a grant should visit www.wacf.org and go to the Nonprofits Tab to read guidelines, instructions and reference materials before starting a grant application. Deadline to submit grants for the Spring 2017 Grant Cycle will be March 1. If you applied for a grant in the Fall 2016 Grant Cycle, you must wait until the Fall 2017 Grant Cycle to apply again. Walker County Forestry Planning Committee will host its Annual Tree Sale Friday, March 3, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Walker County Farmers Market on North Airport Road in Jasper. More than 25 species of trees will be available for sale. The trees will be small 1-2 year old seedlings and sell for $2 or $3 each. Will also have a few selections of larger named variety fruit trees for $10.
