Tomorrow is opening day for the Walker County Farmers Market.
Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, farmers from Walker and surrounding counties will have fresh fruits, vegetables and other goods for sale at the market along Airport Road in Jasper.
Farmers market manager Jeremy Gray said visitors can expect many familiar vendors at the market, along with some new faces.
"I wish people would come out and see what all we have. They'd be surprised how much better the produce is than what they could buy at most other places," Gray said. "The biggest thing people don't realize is that we are just a growers only market. You can't do any buying and then reselling at the market. Everything that's sold has to be grown by the farmer."
Crops have been slow to come in this year, Gray said, so selection may be more limited than usual. He expects farmers will have berries and other items for sale, however.
The farmers market will have its normal operating hours for the 2019 season, from 7 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Those who are interested in being a vendor at the farmers market may visit the guest office during operating hours.
People will notice some aesthetic improvements at the market, thanks to a partnership between the City of Jasper, the Walker County Commission and the Walker Area Community Foundation.
Gray said a new roof has been installed, and the market's office building has been painted. A new sign will be installed at some point, and the parking lot is set to be repaved.
