Beautiful sunny days make it feel like summer is here. Even though it is not officially summer on the calendar, these warm days filled with sunshine help to energize people and excitement for what the summer months bring fills the air.
School will be ending in just a few short weeks and children will be looking for ways to spend their long, summer days. It is important that children find ways to keep entertained without spending countless hours in front of some type of screen.
Long walks, brisk jogs, playing outside, exploring the woods and swimming are all activities that can keep those young and old physically active.
Possibilities for fun and energizing summer activities are endless. Gardening is another activity and hobby that many enjoy. Gardening is not just good for physical activity, but it also keeps people engaged in learning and growing to help provide healthy food to their families and communities.
Walker County has several local farmers that put in tireless hours and effort to make sure they produce some of the best home grown produce around. Many of these farmers help provide healthy food access to the community by selling their fruits and vegetables at the Walker County Farmers Market.
There are many people that do not garden themselves but are looking for affordable quality produce for their families. The farmers at the farmers market offer the chance for families to find what they are looking for at a great deal.
The Walker County Farmers Market will officially open on May 21 at 7 a.m, although there are some farmers already selling at the market.
The hours of operation for the market will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon, unless produce sells out earlier.
The Walker County Farmers Market is located at 1601 North Airport Road in Jasper.
Shopping at the market is a great way to provide healthy foods for your family at an affordable price as well as support your local farmers.
Mark your calendars and do not miss the opening day of the farmers market. Come out and visit and shop with the local farmers on Saturday, May 21.
