Veritas to perform at Jasper's First Baptist

The Christian singing group Veritas, along with songwriter/arranger Jay Rouse, will be performing at Jasper's First Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m.

The group, whose latest album is "Hope Survives," is made up of tenor Andrew Goodwin of Mobile; baritone James Berrian of Nashville; tenor Jeff Anderson of Houston, Texas; tenor Jordan Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; and bass Lucas Scott Lawrence of Mobile.

Wikipedia describes the group as an "American classical crossover vocal quintet." The group toured with Christian singer Sandi Patty and is known for its Christian-themed work. Its 2014 debut album reached No. 4 on Billboard's U.S. classical chart and also rose to 39th on the nation's Christian chart.

“We get so many messages from people on social media, and lots of emails telling us how they were going through a horrible time, and our music reminded them of God’s love for them,” Lawrence said. “It gave them hope.”

Since coming together in 2012, Veritas has always focused on crafting a dramatic experience to tell the greatest story ever told–the diving drama of love between the Creator and His Creation. Now, they are doing it in a way that more intentionally seeks to speak to their audience.

It is something they picked up from Sandi Patty while on tour with her.

“She’d say every night, ‘I know I’ve been called by God, but it’s you, the audience, I’ve worked for all these years,’” Berrian recalled. “That really resonated with us. We asked ourselves how we can best minister to our audience, to speak to the heart and bring encouragement to them, and we really honed in on the common thread we all share, hope.”

“Once you show people who you are and you are transparent with them, all of the sudden they come out of the woodwork saying, ‘That is my story, too.’” Goodwin said.

“The truth is, the five of us on stage represent everybody who we’re singing to, every night.”

Rouse, a pianist, has toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad with  Patty as her music director and accompanist, recorded her American Songbook project in London, traveled to Japan and Korea, and to Carnegie Hall. Additionally, he has worked with Christian artists  Bill and Gloria Gaither, the Gaither Vocal Band, Kathy Trocolli, Buddy Greene and VERITAS.

He also serves as vice president of publishing at PraiseGathering Music Group and composing some of the top-selling choral anthems in Christian music. He is one of the leading arrangers, orchestrators and producers in the industry.

Tickets are available at the church office and online at Artist circle tickets are $15, while general admission tickets are $10. Students through the 12th-grade will be admitted for $5.
