UNA’s Tittle to play against USA National Team

Former Lynn High star makes state all-star team

Posted

Reagan Tittle has been a leader for the UNA softball team since stepping on the field as a freshman for the Lady Lions.

The Lynn High School graduate has been one of the UNA’s top hitters and helped the team to the Division II National Championship as a sophomore.

Now the rising senior will put her game up against the best in the world. Tittle is part of a state collegiate all-star team that will face the USA Women’s National Softball Team in a pair of exhibition games set for 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday at the University of Alabama’s Rhoads Stadium.

“I’m really excited about it. I grew up watching a lot of the players on Team USA, so being on the same field as them is an honor,” said Tittle, adding that her team gets just one practice prior to Thursday’s games. “I go down (Wednesday) and we have our first practice at 2:30 p.m. You get to know everybody quickly.”

Tittle will be joined by UNA teammates Hillary Carpenter and Bailey Nelson.

Players from the University of Alabama, UAH, UNA, Montevallo, South Alabama, Jacksonville State and Mississippi State make up Tittle’s squad.

Tittle doesn’t know the process of how she was selected, but she plans to make the most of the opportunity.

“I got a text from my coach one night asking if I would be able to play in it. That’s really about it. I don’t know how we got picked,” said Tittle, who already knows several of her teammates. “I’ve played travel ball with a lot of them and also met some since I’ve been at UNA. I’m just excited for the opportunity. To be out there with the best of the best will be a great experience.”

During her time at UNA, Tittle has a .323 batting average over her three-year career. She hit .297 as a junior with a .354 on-base percentage to go along with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 stolen bases, 23 RBIs and 29 runs.

After playing in Tuscaloosa, the USA National Team heads to Auburn for two games set for 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Former Curry pitcher Ashlee Swindle will suit up for the Alabama all-star team when the USA National Softball Team comes to Auburn.

As a freshman, Swindle made 15 appearances for the Tigers, finishing 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA. In 34 innings, she struck out 12 batters.

Players from Auburn, Alabama State, Jacksonville State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, Troy, UAB and UAH make up the roster.

The four games represent the only two exhibition stops on the east coast for Team USA.
