Travis "Stump" Thomas, 72, of Nauvoo, crossed into his Heavenly home on May 13, 2019, at Birmingham Baptist Princeton Hospital.
Travis was born March 27, 1947, in the Winston County community of Rocky Plains. Travis was married to his loving wife, Kathy Grace Thomas, for almost 52 years. He was a Vietnam veteran, and was a retired United Mine Worker of America, with 33 years in the underground coal mines. Travis was a longtime member of New Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Nauvoo.
Funeral services will be held today, May 15, 2019, at New Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m., with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Graveside services will follow with full military honors at Ashbank Cemetery. Chris Pschirer will officiate.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Oulcie and Isabell Thomas; brothers and sisters, Edward Thomas, Ottis Thomas, Earnestine Thomas Raley, Irene Thomas, Faye Thomas Richardson and Doris Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Grace Thomas; son, Scott Thomas (Lana Sides) of Jasper; daughter, Sherry Thomas Key (Jerry R. Key) of Carbon Hill; grandchildren, Trey Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Katelyn Key; and his dog, Daisy.
Travis is also survived by his brother, Wallace Thomas (Willma) of Lynn; sisters, Minie Barton (Keith) of Lynn, Peggy Grace (Terry) of Nauvoo, Ruby Gilbreath of Double Springs; sister-in-law, Barbra Thomas of Double Springs; brother-in-law, David Richardson of Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Pallbearers will be Eric Gilbreath, Glen Grace, Jeff Grace, Matthew Phillips, Lonnie Thomas, Jamie Thomas and Robbie Barton.
Honorary pallbearers will be his former mining brothers and sisters and his church family.
