TherapySouth is helping Walker County residents take a natural approach to pain management.
As the first business to open its doors in the old Solid Image Fitness building along Airport Road in Jasper, the newly renovated space at TherapySouth provides a comfortable, state-of-the-art atmosphere for patients.
Clinic director and physical therapist Jacob Gates is the face of TherapySouth-Jasper and spoke with the Daily Mountain Eagle in mid-December about the services provided at the location, such as orthopedic and post surgical rehabilitation, vestibular rehab, chronic pain management therapy, and physical therapy for athletes.
Dry needling is one of Gates' specialties that involves using small needles to go deeper into the skin than traditional acupuncture, offering targeted pain relief.
"We do that a lot for myofascial trigger point release, a lot of chronic tendonitis patients. We use a small-gauge needle," Gates said. "We go into the muscle belly itself, so we're getting a little more depth, and we're able to pinpoint those problem spots. We've had good results with it."
Gates said dry needling breaks up tight spots in muscles and improves range of motion.
"Everybody has an aversion to needles, but because the gauge of it is so small, it's pretty minor," he said, in regards to potential pain with the treatment.
In addition to dry needling, there are a number of specialized therapy options available at TherapySouth, including decompression traction, blood flow restriction training, work conditioning and geriatric rehabilitation. According to the TherapySouth website, custom orthotic fitting is also an offered service.
TherapySouth-Jasper is outfitted with many therapy equipment options, from traditional exercise equipment to a hot and cold compression therapy system.
The Jasper TherapySouth location has been open since the week before Thanksgiving, and other businesses will eventually move in to the remaining spaces on the property. TherapySouth clients may park in front of or behind the building, and their office is conveniently located at the corner of the property.
"We've been really blessed. We've been busy," Gates said. "You have a choice where you go. There are a lot of choices out there, but we feel like we have a good option for hands-on, individualized care."
TherapySouth accepts most insurance plans, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield, VIVA Health, UnitedHealthcare, TRICARE, Aetna, Medicare and others.
A doctor's referral is not required to consult with TherapySouth for treatment.
TherapySouth-Jasper is one of nearly 30 TherapySouth locations in Alabama and is the first location to open in Walker County.
