Tallulah run seeking volunteers

The annual Tallulah Half Marathon and 5K is set for Saturday, June 8, and organizers of the event are seeking volunteers for the morning of the race.

Angie Jo Harris, race director, said the event needs about 30 volunteers.

“As of today, we only have a handful of people who have said they can volunteer,” she said on Friday. “If there are groups out there that need some community service hours, they can get in touch with me.”

This will mark the fourth year for the Tallulah Half Marathon and 5K. The event is sponsored by Jasper Main Street and drew more than 200 runners from across the South last year.

Volunteers will typically work areas of the course where there are intersections, letting runners know the correct direction to travel.

“It is not very difficult, and people who volunteer usually have a lot of fun with it,” Harris said. “We also don’t keep them very long. Most of the locations will need someone early that morning, and they will only need to be there for a couple of hours.”

Volunteers will be needed from 6:30 until 9:30 a.m. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Harris at 205-522-1991 or HarrisAJ02@yahoo.com.
