Sumiton moving ahead with council meeting

Posted

SUMITON – Mayor Petey Ellis said on Monday that the city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday will take place but will not be open to the public.

"We have a few things that we have to take care of,” Ellis said. The chamber area is large enough for the council to keep appropriate amount of distance between members who attend, according to Ellis.

Ellis also said that the feeding program that Grace Baptist Church did for the past few weeks moved back to the Sumiton Senior Center starting on Monday, April 6.  Seniors can drive through and pick up meals to take home, according to Ellis. Representatives from Grace Baptist and Raising Arrows which is a non-profit organization will be on hand to help facilitate.

The Raising Arrows Facebook page gives the latest information on the feeding program throughout Walker County.

Raising Arrows will continue feeding at the following food distribution sites, Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. until further notice: Cordova City Hall, Jasper Civic Center, Jasper Housing Authority, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church - Curry, Oakman Senior Center, Sipsey Community Center, Sumiton Senior Center.
