Former World Champion Scott Steiner is headlining a card preseted by New Era Wrestling tonight in Jasper.
Steiner, a legend who has competed across globe, will be featured on Anniversary II, with a bell time set for 7 p.m. at Clem Gym on the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College. Steiner is scheduled to team with Cody Windham and Johnny Rage to face Greg Dotson, Vince Vences and the Masked Destroyer in a six-man tag team match.
“We are extremely excited to have a name like Scott Steiner on our card to celebrate our second anniversary,” NEW Owner James Phillips said. “He is one of the most popular wrestlers of this generation. His appearance has caused a lot of excitement among our loyal fans and has already brought up some new fans.”
Steiner suffered a health scare a week ago at an Impact Wrestling appearance in Atlanta.
“We were not sure if he would be here for a couple of days and were even working on a couple of backup plans,” Phillips said.
“Steiner called us and was adamant that he would not be missing this show and couldn’t wait to see the fans in Jasper.”
The coronavirus outbreak has also caused some questions about the show, but Phillips said organizers have not considered cancelling.
“It has been a strange week across our county and our world. If we can provide people with a break from all that stress with a safe, family-friendly event, that is exactly what we want to do,” Phillips added. “We are expecting a great crowd, and Steiner says the coronavirus or a health scare won’t keep him from being at the show.”
Steiner commented on the NEW Facebook Page Friday night, saying, “I will be at Bevill State at the Clem Gym in Jasper. A little bug isn’t going to stop ‘Big Poppa Pump.’ Holler if you hear me!”
The main event for the card is NEW Open Champion “Mercenary Pitbull” Romeo Quevedo defending the title against Bubba Cagle in a no holds barred match. Phillips, the publisher of the Daily Mountain Eagle, will wrestle for only the second time when he teams with Caeden Ooten against Ace Haven and Robi Vio. There are seven total matches scheduled for the card.
Ringside tickets are sold out, but general admission tickets will be available at the door for $12 each. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bell time set for 7. For more information, visit the New Era Wrestling Facebook Page.
