State Track Meet: Jasper girls take sixth at Gulf Shores

Jasper High School’s girls track team closed out the Class 5A State Track Meet with a sixth-place finish in Gulf Shores on Saturday.

The Lady Vikings totaled 37.20 points in the event. Scottsboro won the girls 5A division with 83.70 points followed by Ramsay (83), Brewbaker Tech (65), Arab (54.70) and Alexandria (46).

After winning a gold in the 4x400-meter relay on Friday, Jasper had three top-five finishes on Saturday.

Eighth grader Maci Beaty placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes and 28.17 seconds.

Jasper’s 4x400-meter relay team of Beaty, Carlee Muncher, Alex Oliver and Jurni Cummings took fourth with a time of 4:16.37. The 4x100-meter team of Temperance Chatman, Oliver, Kelsey Shelton and Cummings placed fifth with a time of 50.71 seconds.

The highlight of the weekend for the girls was the 4x800-meter relay team of Anna Mobley, Carlee Muncher, Makenna Lewis and Maci Beaty winning the gold — and earning 10 points for the team.

Jasper’s boys also had a top-five finish on Saturday with the 4x800-meter relay team of Ryan Mobley, Dayton Talley, Hudson Freeman and Hayden Yerby taking fifth in 8:42.41.

Corner High School had a pair of athletes place in the pole vault on Saturday.

Bradley Cope was seventh with a height of 11 feet and Dan’L Gibson was eighth with a height of 10-06.
