State Track Meet: Jasper girls relay team wins gold

Jasper High School picked up some gold at the State Track Meet at Gulf Shores on Friday.

Jasper’s girls 4x800-meter relay team of Anna Mobley, Carlee Muncher, Makenna Lewis and Maci Beaty earned the gold by more than 14 seconds, finishing with a time of 10 minutes, 7.48 seconds. Arab placed second at 10:21.80.

The Lady Vikes closed out Friday in fourth place in Class 5A with 23.20 points. Scottsboro leads the way with 58.70 points followed by Arab (51.70) and UMS-Wright (29).

Both McKinley Ferguson and Alex Oliver earned points in the high jump for Jasper. Both finished tied for fourth place while Morgan McClendon placed sixth. Ferguson also took sixth in the triple jump total of 35-feet, 2.25 inches.

For the Jasper boys, the 4x800-meter relay team of Ryan Mobley, Dayton Talley, Hudson Freeman and Hayden Yerby came in fifth.

Corner ninth grader Myka Rogers won the gold in the girls 1600-meter run, beating out a pair of seniors. She finished with a time of 5:21.10. Arab’s Megan Schwarze was second at 5:22.86. Corner’s Gage Bandy placed eighth in the 5A boys high jump with a total of six feet.
